It was a dark and windy night

Brrrrr snowfall blowing into town.

Just beet pulp and apples with supper and then a photo shoot.

Little lunge

Left work late today and didn't arrive at the farm until just after 5:00 with the snow and the traffic.

Took Luba over to my neighbour Pat's arena to lunge over a jump made from a trot pole and a couple of hay bales. Worked about 20 minutes, mostly trot and canter in addition to 10 minute warm up and cool down periods.

Luba with Pat in Pat's arena, Feb 25, 2009

Didn't seem like much of a workout for Luba, but I have just sent my GPS / heart rate monitor to be repaired, so I have no real data. Next time I will bring my stethoscope to check her heat rate and recoveries.

I think Luba needs more meat on her bones. I taped her at 863 lbs today. Have asked Lloyd to up her feed from 4 cups to 6 cups of Purina Evolution Elite (6 cups = 2 lbs) plus her Nutriquin Elite vitamins twice a day. Maybe increase her hay ration as well. I also feed her a generous helping of beet pulp, two ounces of salt and about a cup of extra feed on the days when she works.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Will take a similar conformation shot in Pat's arena on Wednesday to compare to the 2009 picture above.

Sunday Serendipity

Woke to blueberry pancakes for breakfast

Timing is everything - arrived at Roadapple Ranch just in time for an impromtu ride with the herd...

...and for some fun in the snow

Beautiful winter afternoon spent in good company

Next time get out the sleigh -  Graycie wants to come!

Baseline

Rode 50 minutes in the outdoor "snow" ring today, 3.86 miles, average speed 4.6 mph. It was very windy, blowing snow, about 0 C but felt colder with the wind.

Luba was in a grumpy mood today (check out the ears), so we quit early.

I fed her her beet pulp slurry, trimmed her feet and gave her a little massage. Left hamstring seemed a bit tight.

Blog log

“If you want quick spiritual attainments, you should never neglect to record everything in your diary. The diary is your teacher and guide. It is the eye-opener. Blessed is he who keeps a daily diary and compares the work of this week with that of the last week, for he will realize quickly.” Swami Sivananda – One of the greatest masters of our time

I have decided to use this blog as a log. Of course I want quick spiritual attainments.

I also want to get myself and my horse ready to successfully complete a 100 mile endurance ride this season.

One key component of any plan is a log book. Keeping track. Stay tuned. Om nama sivaya.
